RAINBOW ACRES MISSION

Rainbow Acres is a Christian community with heart that empowers persons with developmental disabilities to live to his/her fullest potential with dignity and purpose.

RAINBOW ACRES HISTORY

Rainbow Acres opened its doors in 1974, but existed as a dream long before. Dr. Ralph Showers grew up to be an accomplished Baptist minister and a social visionary, but spent much of his childhood struggling through school with learning disabilities like dyslexia. His struggle created within him a dream for a place where adults with developmental disabilities could lead lives guided by meaning, purpose, dignity and spiritual strength. This dream persevered, despite physical, emotional and operational set backs, to result in a truly special place where miracles occur every day. This place is Rainbow Acres. Since opening it doors as a small ranch-style community in 1974, Rainbow Acres has served the needs of over 400 developmentally disabled individuals. Today, the ranch has grown into a 27-acre, state-of-the-art facility that is home to nearly 100 Ranchers. Located in Arizona’s scenic Verde Valley, Rainbow Acres provides safe and loving homes for adults with developmental disabilities, as well as programs and activities that challenge them to strive to reach their fullest physical, emotional and spiritual potential.
