Programs & Services
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
The Rainbow Acres program is designed to provide as many opportunities as possible for Ranchers (residents) to discover new talents, expand their abilities and skills, and to mature. As the list below illustrates, Rainbow Acres is a dynamic, active community, where there is always "something going on."
Vocational Training
Ranchers are provided the chance to participate in work programs ranging from crafts to landscaping that provide valuable life-lessons. They develop a sense of responsibility, the ability to stick to a task, and learn skills that provide an opportunity for employment in the community. Self-esteem and confidence are greatly boosted by these experiences, and often pave the road for personal growth in other areas.
Worden Life Long Learning Center
Named in honor of long time Rainbow volunteers and supporters Winston and Phyllis Worden, the Learning Center is an integral component in Rainbow's efforts to help the Ranchers expand their personal horizons. Personalized instruction is available to help improve reading, math, language, and cognitive skills. Computer work stations, with software suitable for many levels of ability, help Ranchers exercise their minds and express themselves in a variety of ways. The practical skills of day-to-day living are also taught here, including how to wash your clothes and prepare a nutritious meal.
Special Olympics
One of the most popular activities at Rainbow Acres is competing in Special Olympics. Participation levels are extremely high, as Ranchers enjoy the comradeship of team sports and the challenge of individual events. Special Olympics provides an excellent venue for Ranchers to improve their physical conditioning and motor skills. Rainbow Acres Special Olympic athletes consistently win gold medals in state and regional events, although the Ranchers know that just by competing and doing your best, you're a winner.
Rancher Choir
The Rancher Choir showcases the spiritual energy of the Ranchers as they lift their voices in praise of the Lord. The Rainbow Rancher Choir performs for civic groups and churches across the Southwest. It has toured in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, and has performed at American Baptist Churches' Biennial Conventions in Des Moines, Iowa and Providence, Rhode Island.
Boy Scouts
Rainbow Acres Boy Scout Troop 7019 enjoys active participation by a number of Ranchers. Sponsored by the Camp Verde Kiwanis, Troop 7019 is engaged in a wide variety of activities that propel personal growth and individual achievement, as well as nurturing social skills and the ability to work cooperatively.
Prayer and Praise
Prayer and Praise is a monthly event that allows Ranchers to articulate their faith and strengthen the spiritual foundation of their lives. Moderated by Rainbow Acres President and CEO, Gary Wagner, Prayer and Praise is an important connection to the Christian values that guide the Rainbow community.
Health & Wellness
The Health & Wellness program at Rainbow Acres is facilitated by the staff nurse, and encourages Ranchers (and staff!) to follow lifestyles built upon sound nutrition, exercise, and emotional balance. Frequent presentations on these subjects, along with an occasional "Health Fair," promote a greater awareness in the Rainbow community of these important issues.
Rancher Vacations
Planned Rancher-funded vacations include recreational and educational trips of one to nine days. Included are concerts, sports events, boating, camping, historical and science museums, train rides, and Christmas shopping. They have been to many destinations, including Tokyo, Japan; Washington, D.C.; Inland Passage of Alaska, and Hawaii.
Prayer Circle
Every weekday morning, Ranchers gather for prayer and spiritual guidance. All Ranchers are welcome to attend. Prayer Circle is usually moderated by a Rainbow staff person who is ordained as a pastor. The Ranchers themselves often direct the flow of these sessions as they seek to further their spiritual journeys. |
