Code of Ethics

The following policy applies to all Employees, and Volunteers who will sign a statement that they understand this policy. The statement will be kept in their personnel file. 

I. Responsibility to Ranchers at Rainbow Acres.

I affirm that:

  1. I shall not discriminate against or refuse services to anyone on the basis of race, color, creed, age, gender, sexual preference, disability, religion or national affiliation.
  2. I shall not use my relationship with Ranchers to further my own interests.
  3. I shall act in ways to increase Ranchers participation in the community, and reject segregated activities to the greatest extent possible.
  4. I shall respect the rights and choices of all Ranchers.
  5. I shall not abandon or neglect Ranchers and I shall assure their safety.
  6. I shall treat each Rancher with respect and dignity and I shall have a genuine interest in all Ranchers and shall dedicate myself to the best interest of my Ranchers and to helping them help themselves.

II. Confidentiality

I affirm that:

  1. I shall respect the privacy of Ranchers and hold in confidence all information obtained in the course of professional service. Therefore, I will not disclose Rancher confidences to anyone, except: (1) as mandated by law; (2) to prevent a clear and immediate danger to a person or persons: (3) if there is a waiver previously obtained in writing, and then such information may only be revealed in accordance with the terms of the waiver. I recognize that confidentiality and privacy requirements apply also to co-workers.
  2. I shall be responsible to maintain, store or dispose of Rancher records in ways that maintain confidentiality.
  3. I shall possess a professional attitude, which upholds confidentiality toward Ranchers, colleagues, applicants and any sensitive situations arising within Rainbow Acres.
  4. Upon my termination, I shall maintain Rancher and co-worker confidentiality and I shall hold as confidential, information about sensitive situations within Rainbow Acres.

III. Responsibility to Colleagues at Rainbow Acres

I affirm that:

  1. I shall respect the rights and views of my colleagues and treat them with fairness, courtesy and good faith.
  2. I shall be aware of my potential influences on Ranchers, students, volunteers, co-workers and others, and will not exploit their trust. I will make every effort to avoid dual relationships (conflicts of interest) that could impair my professional judgment.
  3. I shall not engage in or condone any form of harassment or discrimination.
  4. I shall respect the confidences of my co-workers.
  5. When I replace a colleague or am replaced, I shall act with consideration for the interest, character and reputation of the other professional.
  6. I shall extend respect and cooperation to colleagues of all professions.
  7. If I see the Ranchers of a colleague during a temporary absence or emergency, I shall serve that Rancher with the same devotion and consideration as that afforded any Rancher.
  8. If I have the responsibility for employing and evaluating the performances of other staff, I shall do so in a responsible, fair, considerate and equitable manner.
  9. I shall not permit Ranchers, students, volunteers, or fellow employees to perform or present themselves as competent to perform services beyond their training and/or level of expertise.
  10. If I know firsthand that a colleague has violated ethical standards, I shall attempt an informal solution by bringing this to my colleague’s attention and I shall report the unethical activity to my supervisor.

IV. Responsibility to Rainbow Acres

I affirm that: 

  1. I shall work to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of services provided by Rainbow Acres.
  2. I shall act to prevent and eliminate discrimination in work assignments or in personnel policies or practices.
  3. I shall fulfill any and all commitments made by me to Rainbow Acres.
  4. I shall maintain respect for Rainbow Acres’ policies, procedures and management decisions and will take the initiative toward improvement of such policies, procedures, and decisions when it will better serve the best interest of Ranchers.
  5. I shall support the integrity and reputation of Rainbow Acres.

V. Public Statements

I affirm that: 

  1. Because of my ability to influence and alter the lives of others, I shall exercise special care when making public statements.
  2. I shall accurately represent my education, training, experience and competencies as they relate to my position.
  3. I shall correct as appropriate to my position, whenever possible, false, misleading or inaccurate information and representations made by others concerning Rainbow Acres’ services.
  4. If serving as a supervisor, I shall make certain that the qualifications of persons under my supervision are represented in a manner that is not false, misleading or deceptive.

VI. Professional Competency

I affirm that:

  1. I have a total commitment to provide the highest quality services to Rainbow Acres Ranchers.
  2. I have a continuing commitment to assess my own personal strengths, my limitations, my biases and my effectiveness.
  3. I shall strive to become and remain proficient in the practice and performance of my job.
  4. I shall act in accordance with the highest standards of professional integrity.
  5. I shall not seek or accept monetary gifts or personal favors from Ranchers and/or their families. All honorariums while performing work for Rainbow Acres are to be considered contributions to Rainbow’s ministry.
  6. I shall not seek gifts for a specific house or Rancher activity without coordination with the Ranch Director or President.
  7. I shall not work for a Rancher and/or his/her family outside of my employment with Rainbow Acres. If such a request is made, I will direct them to the Ranch Director or President.
  8. I shall not attempt to diagnose, treat or advise on problems outside the recognized bounds of my competence or training and certification.
  9. I shall not allow my own personal problems or conflicts to interfere with my providing care to the Ranchers or fulfilling my professional responsibilities to Rainbow Acres.
